Welcome graphic

"Archery enshrines the principles of human relationships. The Archer perfects his form within himself. If his form is perfect, yet when he releases he misses, there is no point in resenting those who have done better than him. The fault lies nowhere but within them " - (Confucious)

Club Motto

Positive Attitude leads to Positive Performance.

Club mission

To fully support all members to achieve their full potential & to apply the same principles to all those participating in our sport.

We are a Clubmark Club & members of the Archery GB 'ontarget' programme supporting club development!

Following our 2010 success at becoming Gloucestershire Young Club of the Year we became the 2011 Sport & Recreation Alliance National Club of the Year (All Sports)!

Location
Deer Park Archers is a family orientated club based at the Girlguiding Gloucestershire HQ, Camp Training and Activity Centre in Cowley which is located a few miles outside of Cheltenham just off the A435 Cirencester Road. We are less than 10 minutes off the 11A Junction of the M5 and 5 minutes away from the A417. During the summer we shoot at Bubbs Hill which is part of the Guide Centre and in the winter we shoot at Balcarras School Sports Centre, Kingshill School Cirencester, Shurdington, Hatherly and Reddings Cricket club and Birdlip Village Halls. We also have a Field Course starting at Bubbs Hill which uses the adjacent wood for exclusive use of Archery GB members (Not NFAS). We also organise a number of Clout shoots at local farm and school venues.

Membership
In Novemebr 2011 we had well over 200 Members (shooting and non shooting), this figure does include all those members of after-school clubs organised by Deer Park Archers.

40% of our members are adults  with 66% male, 34% female. The vast majority of members have at least one other family member shooting in the Club, our youngest shooting member is just 7 and our oldest members have already qualified for their free bus passes! Indeed on of our latest members to successfully complete the Beginners Course is 72 years young!

60% of archers (excludes beginners) have entered a tournament in the last year. 70% of our members shoot recurve bows (includes barebows), 15% compound and 15% longbow.

We are members of the Archery GB and operate within all their policies and procedures. We are 1 of 14 clubs that are based in Gloucestershire (GAS - Gloucestershire Archery Society) and join many of them at organised events throughout the year.

We meet the standards and criteria that have been set by Sport England to achieve ClubMark, the meeting of these standards will continue to be one of our main aims for 2010.

Beginners Programmes
Where possible we encourage parent(s) of juniors wanting to do a beginners course to also complete the programme as we find that they tend to stand a much better chance of developing to their full potential.

We of course also find that many parents then decide to continue shooting! With this in mind we do not charge a large course fee for the 6 week programme, the fee is just £35 per head.

We are also trialing 8 week courses. All equipment is available free of charge for the first 3 months (and just £1 for each hire after that) and instruction is provided by our team of coaches. Those that elect to join the club are charged just £20 for club membership, fees to Archery GB are additional (no addittion for juniors)

To encourage family membership there are significant concessions on target fees and you only pay when you attend.

General Fees
After completing the 6 week programme archers will be invited to join the Club and will need to pay the following fees to cover membership of Archery GB and insurance cover etc. Juniors £10 and Seniors £55 (may be more if the Archery GB part of the fee increases) which will cover 1 years membership to Archery GB and membership to Deer Park Archers.
During the summer anyone attending a Target Archery Practice session will pay £3 (£5 for 2 family members etc), this entitles them to attend upto 3 sessions in that week (no payment is required if no attendance during a week), attendance at Field Archery sessions will have to be paid separately at the rate of £3 per person.

During the winter, due to the cost of hiring the venues, a single fee of  £3 (£5 for 2 family members etc) will need to be paid for use of all the mid-week venues (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) this fee covers all sessions used in that mid-week period (you can therefore attend as many times in that week for a single payment). The same rule is applied to the weekend sessions (usually Saturday and Sunday). Therefore one fee covers both of the weekend sessions.
These attendance fees cover a range of items including hire of facilities, target faces, loan of some equipment, access to spares box, use of other extensive Club resources etc
