Next Field Course Meeting

Sunday 14th March

CLUB FIELD COURSE SHOOT at Bubbs Hill 9:45 for 10am start.

Following the trial sessions we will be adding 7 more targets to give a round of 25.

We will be inviting 2 other local clubs to join us on this shoot. Whilst it is all about fun the round will be designed to allow scoring for those that want to record their efforts.

Bubbs Hill Field course Update

Following an excellent attendance on the 14th February, the attandance was surprisingly good on the 21st as there had been a couple of extra cms of snow overnight and the roads were not good. Having used the course twice we have decided to add another 4 targets and to move 2 of the current ones to create a better balance between open and woodland shots.

Next dates for shoots TBA, this time we will have a scoring round. We have also decided to confirm with the county that we would like to hold the County Field Championships late December.

For those that want to, a swift drink in the Green Dragon to finish!

New Field Course Opening

Its looking like Sunday 21st February! Will confirm date after 8th February review.

Field Course
On the 22nd January, John, Ed, Dan and Roger braved the elements to hammer in all the target support posts. There will be 18 targets, most with clear overshoot and surrounds to ensure we minimize the loss of arrows. We have just ordered a number of new foam bosses, some for the target range at Bubbs Hill and some for the field course. We will also use some of the old bosses we used last year at Bubbs Hill. As soon as the new bosses are available we will complete the course and let you know when it is open for training!

Field Archery - 8 Week Beginners Courses

We will be running 2 field archery training courses during 2010. Participants need to have their own equipment and be members of ArcheryGB.

New Field Course at Bubbs Hill

The course design is complete (Dec 26th), it will be an 18 target round and will be exclusive to GNAS Members. Installation will be complete some time in January (Dependant upon delivery of new bosses).

Field Course

The course at high Cross it to demanding and not well enough maintained for new members to shoot without a very high risk of losing arrows. We have now got permission and funding to create a new course around the Bubbs Hill perimeter and in the adjacent area of Cowley Woods. The target is to build a course by the end of the year, probably 15 bosses, with lots of clear areas behind the targets, hilly terrain and open and well wooded areas will provide an excellent setting. Already a number of club members volunteered to constuct and maintain the course.

Members Field Course at BUBBS HILL – Thursday 11th June

We are putting a mini-field course together at Bubbs Hill for this Thursday. We know a number of you would like to try field archery but are worried about losing your arrows at High Cross. The course will be made up of 2D and 3D targets at markers suitable for everyone and there will be cut grass/banks behind each target. Every thing else will be explained on the evening and groups of 4/5 will make their way around from 6:00pm (last starting time will be 7:30).  This is a great chance to try field archery, so why not give it a go!

Unfortunately photo's just do not capture the challenge of the terrain but we have included a few. The best way to appreciate it is to come along and have a go.

A view across a 'flatter' part of the course!

One fear has been the loss of arrows, well as all those that have done the course will tell you, it does not happen very often. When arrows have been lost they have generally be found by the next group around or Paul and Roger have subsequently found them with a metal detector!

We have discovered that the challenges of the course really do change with the time of the year. During the summer plenty of growth, long grass and flies, the winter (plus sheep) has seen much shorter grass, few flies but plenty of streams and ponds to shoot across!

All those that have used the course will tell you that as the course is on the side of a hill, almost in a bowl, it has its own micro climate little or no wind and as a result seems to be much warmer on the course rather than at the start.
