Beginners Courses Update - Oct 2009
4 Courses currently running and being organised by Xperience Archery on our behalf.
A number of private sessions also being run. Technically we are also running 8 week beginners courses in 5 schools with 80
individuals (teachers and pupils). We are also starting a similar number of school programmes after Christmas.
We
will be starting another Club beginners course at the end of January, probably on a Monday evening. Watch this space!
Beginners Courses - We keep the cost as low as possible, just £24 for the full 6 weeks. We keep the quality and support as high as
possible, often 1 coach per 2 archers and generally a maximum of 8 on a course.
We are fortunate to have over 80 bows to select from, so we can provide the best match
of equipment to the archer. We also have 8 Genesis bows for use by beginners.
If you want to join the club on completion of the course the fee is just £10 for 12 months membership,
plus the GNAS fee. You will not find a lower membership fee!
2009 October Beginners Courses We already have a waiting list, so if you want places
it will be on a first come basis. Please email Roger on RSCrang@aol.com or phone 01242 870046 to reserve places. The cost will be £24 per person. This will cover the cost for all 6 sessions. This will be payable in advance.
Possible Additional Beginners Courses
Due to high demand we are looking at running some additional beginners courses starting at the beginning of October.
These programmes will be run by Xperience Archery, a private company set up by a couple of our Club Coaches. Venue, dates,
costs etc will be decided by the end of August.
Beginners Courses June 2009
4 beginners courses began on the 1st (6:30 and 7:45pm)and 3rd June at Bubbs Hill, these will also be used to provide
the opportunity for the trainee Level 1 coaches to be externally assessed.
Extract from our Beginners Programme booklet
This booklet is designed to identify, in brief, the approach and activities
you will undertake during the six-session Archery Beginners Course. It has been designed to satisfy the requirements of the
Grand National Archery Society (GNAS) which will be required to join (for insurance purposes etc) if you wish to continue
in the sport. All equipment is provided and the programme will be supported by practice and demonstration and qualified Coaches
will be on hand at all times during the course.

We are currently applying for accreditation for Clubmark which is a National scheme recognizing the upholding of standards in the following areas:
Coaching Programmes
Duty of care and Child Protection
Sports equity and ethics
Club management
We have codes of conduct for coaches, members, volunteers & parents/carers.

Fees
You will not find a lower cost Archery Beginners Course in Gloucestershire! See above for
current prices.
As
you will see from our website we try to offer a range of activities and social events. We also have a Field Archery Club called
High Cross which is affiliated to the NFAS.
Archery Beginners
Course
‘The Deer Park Approach’
We recognise that each individual is different. We
avoid large programmes preferring to work with groups of no more than
4 .
We ensure each archer can develop
at their own pace by providing them with individual support to give them the
best start possible.
The small group approach has proved
to be the best way of ensuring new members are more easily integrated into the rest of the club.
We
strive to create an environment of continuous learning and support throughout
the club such that the availability of coaching continues unchanged after completion of the first 6 weeks.
When juniors are involved we strongly
encourage at least one parent/Guardian to complete the first 6 weeks (and hopefully then continue) as this helps the parents
to better appreciate the challenges of archery and hence provide the necessary support and encouragement..
We strive for integration not separation,
so do not run separate sessions for juniors believing that standards of behaviour and learning are better achieved by this
approach.
We promote participation in competition
so again strongly support and encourage members to compete in formally organised competitions.
We promote archery as a family
sport.
We start Archery Beginners Course
programmes throughout the year.

We encourage all our members to demonstrate the following etiquette
A Good Archer;
Does not talk in a loud voice when others
are shooting.
Does not talk to another competitor who obviously
prefers to be silent.
Does not make any exclamation on the shooting
line which might disconcert a fellow archer in the act of shooting.
Does not go behind the target to retrieve
arrows before his score has been recorded.
Does not walk up and down the line comparing
scores.
Does not touch anyone else’s equipment
without permission.
When calling scores does so in groups
of three, eg. 7-7-5 pause 5-5-3.
If they break another’s arrow
through their own carelessness pays for it.
Thanks the Target Captain at the end of
each round for work on their behalf.
