Development of our Field Course and Creation of High Cross Archers

2007 saw us make real progress with the field course in trms of its devevelopment, its use and the level of experience we gained. Paul Yeomans became the Chairman of High Cross Field Archery Club and will now lead both the GNAS and NFAS activities. Paul organised a number of events and we had many visitors from other clubs, the owner also gave us permission to increase the size of the course, which is currently 12 acres up to a possible 25 acres! The biggest event of the year was the GWAS Regional Field Championships which is reported below;

Whilst this report is about the success of our own archers we had many entrants from other clubs and much help to organise our first field competition.For most of our members this was their first field course competition and for Deer Park it was the first time we had organised a Field Archery Competition but the way members worked to get the day as good as we could get it and the level of performance of our archers on the day was just excellent!

18 Regional Titles were awarded 9 of them Senior The Gents Recurve category had the largest number of competitors and our own John Spear just beat fellow Deer Park Archer Bernie Woods to 8th place. Deer Park won 4 Senior Titles, Steph Crang winning the Ladies Compound with 334, Paul Yeomans and Vanessa Crang winning the Longbow titles and Keith Baker winning the Traditional category.

The 9 junior titles saw Deer Park winning 6 of them, John and Eliza Cass, Callum(330) and Alex Fraser(314), Lukas Baker and Harry Evans all competing in their first field archery competitions. Another excellent performance came from our own Beckie Hutchings who was narrowly beaten by Eliza into the Silver position, Beckie has only recently started shooting and this was her first competition of any sort!

The Gloucestershire Junior Outdoor Championships – Organised by Deer Park Archers

We won no less than 8 of the 17 County titles on offer. Rosie, Kieran, Georgia, Alex and Callum won titles. As did William, Chris and Mathew in the Longbow and entries were up this year and 2 archers, William and Chris, both of Deer Park claimed their 225 Rose Awards. 6 Archers, all from Deer Park, competed in the afternoon doing the Junior Nationals and there were excellent performances from them all with Jack Woods who has only been shooting compound for less than 3 weeks recording 539 and Charlotte Green  recording 297 on a the Very Short Junior National Barebow, again Charlotte has only just started shooting. Victoria and Alastair were our other National winners.

The Best Golds were all won by Deer Park Archers with Kieran Schneider winning the Recurve, Alex Fraser the Compound and Chris Green the Longbow.
